When someone is going to be getting their photo taken, one of the first things I’m sure that come to mind is what to wear!
We’ve all seen the family photo’s where the whole gang is dressed in jeans and a white t-shirt, or for those real adventurous ones, dressed in something like all plaid. Please, let’s refrain from doing this. Why does everyone have to match in photo’s!? They don’t! So, what should you wear? Here’s my friendly advice.
First, wear what you are COMFORTABLE in. If you aren’t comfortable or confident in what you are wearing, well, it will show in your images! Wear something that is you and shows your personality. You also want to avoid wearing loose or baggy clothing, stick to clothing that is more fitted and it will be more flattering in your photos.
Now, let’s talk about COLOR! Color’s are your FRIEND!! They make your images stand out and look so much prettier! No one wants bland looking images. A bright shirt, a sweater with a bright scarf (will definitely make winter images pop!), a colorful skirt or dress.. these will look so lovely in your images! Couples do not need to match, similar style and coordinating color? Yes! Matching? No! Same for families. For example, you plan a family photo session for your family, maybe it’s fall time. Warm rustic colors, plums, dark oranges, navy blue, mustard yellow, olive green..these are all so complimentary to each other! Not that you have to choose between these colors, but this is an idea of the color palette that you can dress everyone in (without matching!) but complimenting one another.
Next, accessorize! Some pretty bangles or maybe a bold colorful necklace, a bright scarf.. you get the idea! These are all ways to help make your images pop, they really do add to your photos!
I definitely encourage at least one outfit change for photos, especially engagements and senior photos! I suggest wearing one dressy outfit and one casual outfit choice. This allows you to have at least two looks from your session.
My last suggestions are stay away from white and black! These can both be very harsh on skin tones, and not always the most flattering! Also, check out Pinterest for outfit ideas! I’m sure that is what a huge majority of us will all do anyways, haha!!
Have fun with whatever outfits you choose, be comfortable, aim for pops of color, and if you really need to get an idea of what NOT to wear, check out awkwardfamilyphotos.com hahaha! I had to, it’s a good laugh.
Enjoy your Sunday everyone!
